Why assess ADHD and autism together
ADHD and autism are separate diagnoses, but they occur together far more often than was once recognised. Some experiences, such as difficulty with attention, sensory overload or social exhaustion, can come from either, and telling them apart matters because the right support differs.
Assessing both in one pathway lets a single clinician weigh the full picture, avoids repeating the same history across two appointments, and gives you one coherent report instead of two that may not reference each other.
What the assessment covers
The clinician takes a detailed history of your childhood and adult life, explores attention, activity and impulsivity alongside social communication, routines, interests and sensory experiences, and considers other explanations such as anxiety or low mood. The outcome may be ADHD, autism, both, or neither, and the report explains the reasoning.
